THE HUNTER-GATHERER WAY OF LIFE
Experience the unique semi-nomadic, hunter-gatherer lifestyle of the Waorani, one of nine Indigenous groups in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Our film zooms in on 'The Waorani from Bameno’ who live in the farthest Amazonian settlement from road reach.
ANIMISM
This film will immerse the viewer in the Waorani animist worldview, where spirits inhabit rivers and trees, blurring the lines between the physical and spiritual realms. We will follow their shaman, Miñihua, their newly chosen spiritual leader. Known as the oldest and most knowledgeable Waorani, he has been tasked with the responsibility of maintaining their jungle home, spiritual practices, and way of life.
WAORANI HISTORY
We will also explore the Waorani’s resilience against outside threats, from historical clashes with missionaries in the 1950s to a battle against the Ecuadorian government and oil corporations in 2019, which resulted in an unprecedented victory and legal rights for Mother Earth.
